Zahir borned on 1933 in MAJUPUR from FENI District . His father Maulana Mohammad Habibullah, was a professor of Calcutta Alia Madrasah . Zahir's elder brother was "SHAHIDULLAH KAISER" . His real name is MUHAMMOD ZAHIRULLAH . He got the name Raihan from underground leaders . His wives, "SUMITA DEVI" and "SUCHANDA" were film actresses . His first book was a collection of stories named "SURYA GRAHAN".
In 1950 from Amirabad High School Zahir passed the Matric. He passed ISc Examinations from Dhaka College and compleated BA (Hon) in Bangla from the University of Dhaka.
He was attracted by the communist movement from his early age which was banned.
In 1952, Zahir went to Calcutta to learn photography to Pramatesh Burua Memorial Photography School. He entered the film world in 1956 . in 1961 he made his 1st film "KAKHONO ASHENI" . His English film "LET THERE BE LIGHT" , was not finished for the "WAR OF LIBERATION". In 1970, he was one of the initiators of publishing the English Weekly Express. After 1971,25March , he produced documentary film "STOP GENOCIDE" .
His Disappearing :
In December 1971, some unknown people took away Zahir's elder brother shahidullah kaiser, another ramarkable writer of Bangladesh from his residence ,and On 30 December 1971, someone informed Zahir about an address, somewhere at Mirpur, where his brother may be found. Zahir left home to get his brother back but he never returned
